Opened in 1987 in a converted church. The Empire is small to medium sized venues specialising in live music and stand-up comedy. Sigur Rós played their debut Irish date at the venue and the stage has also seen the likes of Billy Bragg, Snow Patrol, Ash, The Divine Comedy and REM’s Peter Buck. The venue is known as the launch pad for The Hole in the Wall Gang and has also hosted gigs by Ardal O’Hanlon Dara O’Briain, Lee Evans and Michael McIntyre. Other entertainment at the Empire includes blues nights, salsa evenings, live sport of the big screen and pub quizzes.
